Relocated to Florida ~ We called it a 2 Year Vacation! - Blog Post 3

My husband looked at me, and I back at him. I asked him "are you ready?", his response was "let's do it!". It was in that moment we decided to move to Florida. Very random, I know. Let me tell you the story of our 2 year vacation experience. The experience was a pivotal experience toward our self discovery.
[ Flashback 3 years ago... ]

The way it flowed was like this. At the time I was working in Corporate at an office. I planned it all out in my mind, I was going to go to my  manager and let him know I was moving to Florida and I wanted to work from home %100. So just the way I visualized it to go, it happened just like that. The next day we had a conversation, within a few hours I was heading home with my laptop and now working  from home virtually, full time. Just like that~

Everything just flowed from there. We packed up the house, put some things in storage, and took a few things with us like clothes, shoes, and the essentials. I called myself trying to live like a minimalist, and convinced my husband that we should consider clearing our space and just starting fresh when we got there. Get this, we were definitely ready to move but had no idea where we were actually going to live in Florida.

A week before we moved, my husband found a nice family friendly resort, we were able to book the timeshare for 2 months. Perfect timing, the summer had just started. It was early June when we decided to move. So the first 2 months of our move we stayed at a resort in Weston, FL.  Weston is a super classy city ducked off not too far from Miami, and right outside of Miramar Beach.  If you ever get the opportunity to go to South Florida, Weston is beautiful, simple, and a very easy going family experience.

Our stay in Weston, FL was nice. The resort had activities going on each day. The activities kept us busy. My daughter Yum Yum who was 5 at the time [ she's now 8] enjoyed every day of our resort stay. We took belly dancing classes, they had kids night out, movies night at the pool, taco night, all which came as a bonus when booking. My husband and I were working from home. During the day, we would sometimes grab our laptops, put on our swim suits and sit by the pool while Yum Yum swam and played with new friends at the resort. We were living. The resort had 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and a living room, and a patio that wrapped around. Picture me in a long sundress, a nice breeze, me with my shades on, long box braids, living a dream. This was the start of us just flowing. Thinking back, the Universe was giving us the same energy we were putting out. Everything was so blissful and full of new experiences.

During that summer we stayed in Weston, FL and traveled to discover every beach around us. I would say Delray Beach is our most favorite. It's a very quiet beach, the water is clear and beautiful, and the sand was white and soft. Hollywood, FL is another quiet secluded area. The beach in Hollywood, FL is my absolute favorite. The sand is white and soft, the boardwalk has outside restaurants, and it's never ever packed. We would rent bikes and ride down the boardwalk. If you go try to catch the sunset! The views are breathtaking.

"We spent that summer traveling up and down the Florida coast. Discovering new places and enjoying life. The experience was our pause. It was our getaway. Our refresh".

Our second part of our getaway was us moving to Port Saint Lucie, FL. It's a small city not too far from Jupiter, FL. We lived in walking distance from the city square, which held restaurants, festivals, and markets frequently. We were living a dream. Yum Yum was able to experience going to school in the city, and we were still working from home. Each night at sunset we had a beautiful view from our balcony.

While living in Port Saint Lucie, FL we discovered a city near by called Fort Pierce. The city is small and holds so much beauty. In fact Zora Neale Hurston  a famous writer, called Fort Pierce home, she has lots of roots there too. She was one of the most important writers of Black literature.

We enjoyed going to the beach in Fort Pierce. My personal favorite beach was South Causeway Beach the water was calm, and not too deep, the sand was soft and the view was peaceful. My family and I would spend the day there. The beach was never crowded, we were able to bring our grill, and the palm trees all around gave for lots of shaded places. I would say, that's one of my favorite places to go in Florida outside of Hollywood.

We were living in paradise in complete bliss as a family for 2 years. It all started by us just deciding off of a whim to just go, to just flow with no expectations, only accepting all possibilities, and enjoying the moments of life.

If you're wondering what happened after the two years were up. Well, we decided to move back home. We missed our family! We were still working from home, Yum Yum started homeschooling. AND the rest I'll tell later in another post.

Moving to Florida was really a pivotal point in our life, we were able to get away and connect. Our place and space was peaceful with not much distractions. I was able to connect with myself on a deeper level and discover parts of me, shed some layers, and open my eyes to a clearer view.
